Curves

The curves control has seen what looks like a fairly substantial face lift.

However, I can't really see the point of much of it! The finer grid lines will be nice for adjusting several different layers without resorting to saving a curve, but thats about the only useful change I can work out!

Brightness / Contrast

Okay I don't know about you, but I never realy used the Brightness / Contrast control much before. It did nothing I couldn't do faster and with more control with Curves.

However, CS3 has completely changed that. It now seems to automatically apply the Shadow / Highlight filter to it. Look at this image for instance.



Left is the original. Middle is +40 brightness in CS2 legacy mode, Right is +40 brightness in CS3 mode.

Obvious changes

Well as with most new software, the most obvious changes are minor tweaks to the interface.

CS3 brings us collapsible pallets more similar to those first seen in InDesign, which all stack neatly together. To give you an idea what I'm talking about from now on, heres a screenshot of Photoshop CS3 with its default workspace:

Installation

Well they say first impressions count... My first impression was that they havn't got around to designing a logo yet! Opening the very plain looking SETUP file launched a bespoke installer which asked very little of me, as usual under the Mac OS X system, expect to confirm a massive list of options you can install.

Introducing myself

Well I have always toyed with the idea of getting myself a blog but have never had a topic I know enough about to attract readers away from existing blogs.

When I read on Mac Insider that there was 'soon to be' a Photoshop CS3 public beta I assumed in the next couple of days. A quick look at the Adobe website showed to my surprise that it was already there I realised I could be quick on the scene and document my experiences with the new version of Photoshop.
