Lightroom vs. Photoshop: What’s the Difference?

There is an interesting and informative discussion at PhotoshopTechniques explaining what Adobe Lightroom is and how it differs from Photoshop’s capabilities. Photoshop CS3 most likely includes the bulk (if not all) of Lightroom’s features, so why would anyone choose to buy Lightroom? The key point is that Lightroom has been specifically tailored to fit the needs of traditional photographers, who are accustomed to a light table work process. The discussion continues to address some other reasons Adobe might have to introduce Lightroom, yet another Photoshop offshoot.

Photoshop CS3 Extended: who won't buy it?

So Adobe has announced there will be two versions of Photoshop CS3 when released in the near future. CS3 vanilla, and CS3 Extended. By opting for the extended edition, you get some tasty treats like built-in 3D and motion support. Being able to edit 3D objects within a 2D composition will be an excellent option; likewise painting directly into single and multiple video frames. My question: unless there is an exorbitant price premium, why wouldn't they just deliver these new features in vanilla?
