On April 4, 2002 (five years ago today), Ammar Midani of PhotoshopTechniques began a survey of 10 Photoshop-related questions. One of these questions elicited some amazingly prophetic responses as to the future of Photoshop: “What will PS 10 look like?” Back then, the most current version of Photoshop was 7.0, 3D z-space manipulations were relatively new to After Effects, and Adobe would not merge with Macromedia for another three-and-a-half years. Some of the highlights can be found in this thread.
Again, the question was, “What will PS 10 look like?” Below is a list of responses that I found to be particularly interesting:
- “… high tech looking … after adobe merges with Macromedia and they make a superproggy …”
- “… it will have several features from After Effect[s]: 3D layers that can project shadows, and a customizable filters palette …”
- “… it will swallow ImageReady …”
- “… there will be a big Mac OS X 11 on the front of the box …”
- “… the different applications will be running together so that you don’t have to import and export your image into different programs all the time …”
- “… 3d photorealistic animation realtime editing …”
